Recovery after the procedure
On the very first day after the surgery, our patients start walking with the aid of two crutches under the professional supervision of a physiotherapist. In addition, they do exercises for strengthening and stretching the muscles and learn about the allowed movements in the early postoperative phase. Four days after surgery, patients are released from our institution and continue intense rehabilitation in the rehabilitation clinic Thalasso Therapia or another specialized institution. Three weeks after surgery, most patients begin walking with only one crutch (using the arm opposite the operated leg).
Six months after surgery, the patient is not allowed to lift heavy loads and perform sudden rotary motions of the operated joint.
An early rehabilitation of patients allows rapid recovery and return to daily activities within a period of 4 to 8 weeks. Six weeks after surgery, the patient has to come for a check-up and an X-ray. The next examination is in three, then six months followed by regular check-ups once a year.
